Tom Brady and the Patriots established several NFL and franchise records in their 45-10 win over the Broncos Saturday night. His five touchdown passes in the first half set an NFL record and his six touchdown passes tied another. Their 45 points points also established a franchise high for points in a playoff game.
Brady was predictably unmoved by his accomplishments. "I have no idea what records and stuff like that," he said.
The quarterback was far more happy with the victory, which snapped a three-game playoff losing streak and snapped two straight seasons of first-round disappointments.
"It's all about winning," Brady said. "You lose a few playoff games and it's a very bitter way to end the season and it sits on your mind for quite a long time. For us to come out and play the way we did and have a very solid performance in the most important game of the year is very gratifying. We've got eight days until the biggest game of the year, so from this point on everyone will be focused on what we do to be better next week and hopefully play for another championship."
However, Brady was happy about his 48-yard fourth-quarter punt. Almost.
"We've been practicing it for seven years," he said. "I was trying to get it inside the 5, but I needed a penalty to do that."
As for the Tim Tebow hype leading into the game, Brady called his Denver counterpart, "a very good quarterback," while adding, "I think that everyone focused on one player, and all week we were focused on the entire Denver Broncos team."
