Haynesworth: No 'rhythm' with Pats

Patriots castoff Albert Haynesworth debuted with the Buccaneers Sunday and started on the defensive line, making five tackles and blocking an extra point in his team's 37-9 loss to the Texans. After the game, Haynesworth talked about his transition from New England to Tampa.

"I was a little bit tired, but that was the most plays I've played all year," he told the Tampa media. "When I was in New England, it was hard. You play like three or four plays and then you sit for a quarter. It was hard to get into a rhythm."

Sunday was not all positive for Haynesworth, who made three tackles in six games with the Patriots. He had one penalty (a neutral zone infraction) and his team was routed. Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris said he'll need more time to analyze Haynesworth's first performance.

"It's hard to evaluate our new D-tackle," Morris said. "He made a couple of plays. I saw that. We've got to get a chance to look at him on tape, but I know he showed up a little bit and made a couple of plays for us."

Patriots defensive end Andre Carter, who set a team record with 4 1/2 sacks in Sunday night's 37-21 victory over the Jets, was asked about Haynesworth during his appearance on Monday's Mut & Merloni show and said Haynesworth appears to be a better fit with Tampa Bay.

“I can understand how he may fit into that defense," Carter said. "Because they’re — I don’t know how to describe it — I think when it comes to their big men, their tackles, they just kind of shoot upfield and their ends kind of control everything. … That’s just their style. Our style is unique. We have so many schemes. Every day we’re always learning something new. It’s more of an understanding of how guys fit and everything’s in unison."

ESPN analysts were not kind in discussing Haynesworth before Sunday's action.

"He has become the poster child for the guy who gets paid and then doesn't play," Tom Jackson said on "NFL Countdown."

Added Herm Edwards: "Hello! He doesn't like football. That's the problem. You have to be available. He's never available, and when he is available, his motor runs on idle."
