West's agent: Celtics his No. 1 destination

While Delonte West is leaving the door open for a possible stint overseas, the Celtics remain his No. 1 option as an unrestricted free agent this offseason, West's agent Jarinn Akana told ESPN.com.

"Delonte was drafted by Boston, and he has a special place for Boston because of that," Akana told Chris Forsberg. "He spent some good years there, then came back last year and was able to play, but had injuries here and there. He did contribute, but he wanted to contribute more and help Boston advance further. Of course he'd like to be back. I think that's his No. 1 goal to be back and help Boston win another championship."

West missed the first 10 games of the 2010-11 season due to suspension, played a handful of games, missed the next 39 after breaking his right wrist, played a trio of games, missed another eight after chipping a bone in his right ankle and then closed the season strong.

When all was said and done, West averaged 5.6 points on 45.8 percent shooting along with 2.7 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 18.9 minutes over 24 regular-season games. Fulfilling what the Celtics expected from him all season, he averaged 10.2 points in 23.2 minutes during the five-game Eastern Conference semifinals loss to the Heat.

Given the state of available free-agent options to the Celtics at backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo, West likely remains the C's No. 1 target at that position as well. West signed for the veteran minimum of just one year at $854,389 last offseason, and under the current rules the team could offer him a minimum salary of $1.0 million or a portion of the mid-level exception. Because of the lockout, Akana isn't ruling out West's options overseas.

"With any player, there has be be due diligence to see what's happening," he told ESPN.com. "That's basically where he's at. But he'd like to be back in Boston. He had a great time there, he loves his teammates and he loves the organization."
