All signs point to Stephon Marbury joining the Boston Celtics after he clears waivers.

According to league sources, the two-time All-Star point guard, who reached a buyout settlement with the New York Knicks on Wednesday, is expected to sign a free agent deal for the remainder of the season with the defending world champions.

“It’s done — barring any craziness,” one source said.

Marbury, who hasn’t played since Jan. 11 of last season, will fill one of the Celtics two biggest weaknesses — a backup point guard who can handle ball pressure.

The Celtics also added veteran big man Mikki Moore after he was waived earlier this week.

Marbury, who spent five seasons with the Knicks, will be eligible to play for the Celtics in the postseason because he was waived prior to the March 1 deadline. New York’s attempts to trade Marbury came up short, so they came to an agreement in which they were able to save a portion of Marbury’s contract — which was $21 million for the entire season.

Sources indicated that Marbury likely gave up in the neighborhood of $2 million to reach the buyout.

Marbury hasn’t played in a game in more than a year, but reports are that he’s kept himself in great shape. He averaged 13.9 points last season in just 24 games due to ankle surgery.

The Celtics probably won’t need more than 15 minutes per game from him, anyway, with Rajon Rondo commonly playing around 35 minutes per contest.
