Cross Fenway’s Home Plate to Help Wounded Veterans and Their Families
On Sunday May 20th, runners and walkers can join WEEI’s own GERRY CALLAHAN for the thrill of crossing home plate at Fenway Park while supporting wounded veterans and their families. The 2012 Run-Walk to Home Base Presented by New Balance is a 9K (5.6 mile) Run and a 3-mile Walk to benefit the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program.
Participants will help provide clinical care for vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat stress or traumatic brain injury and counseling for their families. Registered Runners and Walkers begin at historic Fenway Park and wind their way through scenic Boston and with a timed finish at the Green Monster and a photo finish at Fenway's famous home plate. Friends and family are invited to Fenway to cheer you on. And while Runners must be 16 and older, this year, all ages may participate in the Walk. Advance registration is required. "They served us. Now we can serve them." Please visit www.runtohomebase.org
Avalanna Routh, AKA "Mrs. Bieber," finally meets her "husband"

The adorable Avalanna Routh was diagnosed at 9 months old with a rare brain cancer called AT/RT and has undergone many surgeries over the course of her life. Last August, she put a smile on everyone’s face, when she joined the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon and proclaimed her love for Justin Bieber (click through for audio and video). In fact, Avalanna had the chance to "marry him" thanks to the Jimmy Fund.
As a result of an aggressive social media campaign (via Facebook and Twitter), Avalanna was finally afforded the chance to meet her "husband," Justin Bieber this past Monday, February 13. She joined D&C in studio on Valentine's Day to talk about her special experience.
