MIAMI -- The NBA downgraded the flagrant-one foul that was called on Jermaine O'Neal in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals to a personal foul. O'Neal elbowed Miami's James Jones on the play, which came at the 2:30 mark of the third quarter and resulted in a five-point swing after Jones made his free throws and Mike Bibby sank a 3-pointer.
The NBA also rescinded the technical foul on Jones from his altercation with Paul Pierce at the 7:49 mark of the fourth quarter, but upgraded the personal foul called Jones to a flagrant-one. Pierce was later ejected after picking up a second technical foul. An NBA official said on Monday that Pierce wouldn't be suspended for Game 2.
