Schilling: 'Pissed' about bin Laden funeral

Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling called in to the Dennis & Callahan show Monday morning to offer his views on the death of Osama bin Laden. While he was delighted that the American military finally hunted down and killed the 9/11 mastermind and longtime terrorist, Schilling said his only disappointment comes in that bin Laden was given a quick burial at sea, in accordance with Muslim tradition.

"I'm pissed," Schilling said. "Because I can't fathom why we would honor the Muslim traditions for a guy who Muslims have been telling us for 10 years doesn't represent the true Muslim faith, and our government has been telling us the same thing."

Added Schilling: "Who were they worried about offending, radical Muslims? Because any true Muslim has told us for the last 10 years that the radicals like Osama bin Laden don't represent them. It's like calling Adolf Hitler a Christian. And again, I understand to some degree why they're anxious, so there isn't rioting. But we're playing a game of chicken where we get to punch them and they get to punch us, but they kick us in the nuts after they punch us and we don't."

Schilling, well known for his right-wing political views, acknowledged that the show of respect likely was necessary. "I understand we're in a very different world nowadays and all the things that go with playing politically correct, but it's just embarrassing to think that our men and women, who have been executed on live television, who have been treated like dogs and animals as prisoners of war, and we're going out of our way to make sure we abide by customs and traditions and religions for someone who was as evil as anybody that's ever walked this planet," he said.

Schilling also would have preferred bin Laden not have suffered a quick death. "It's not the right way to deal with it, but given what he and his people have done to innocent men and women around the world and our armed forces, it was a little bit too quick and easy for him, getting out of this one," Schilling said.
