Logan Mankins told reporters Tuesday that he isn't sure he wants to remain a member of the Patriots if the 2011 NFL season takes place.
"I've thought about that," Mankins said when asked if he wants to stay in New England. "I don't know. I'm not going to put any answers on that right now, I'll wait until there is a season in progress before I decide."
The Patriots placed the franchise tag on Mankins in February, following a 2010 season that saw the All-Pro guard miss the first seven games before signing a RFA tender for $1.54 million.
It is possible -- though most feel not probable -- that the eventual collective bargaining agreement would contain no franchise tags. Mankins was asked for his thoughts on that possibility.
"Well, that would be nice, because I've heard there's this thing in football called free agency," said Mankins. "It's been two years now and I haven't seen it. Maybe one of these days I could actually experience it."
