John Lackey, who was scheduled to start for the Red Sox on Wednesday before the game vs. Tampa was postponed, will be skipped in the rotation and not pitch in upcoming four-game series vs. the Blue Jays.
Clay Buchholz will start on Friday against Toronto, followed by Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Lackey -- 1-1 with a 15.58 ERA in two starts this season -- will make his next start on Tuesday vs. the Athletics, the first game of a nine-game road trip for the Sox.
"Basically, Lackey is missing a turn so we don’t have to try to have guys going on a week’s rest. It’s not perfect for him. We’ll try to map it out where it helps him," Francona said. "But rather than have five guys really pushed back too much, we’ll take one start and let Lack start the game out in Oakland where he’s had a lot of success."
In his career, Lackey has pitched at McAfee Coliseum, going 8-4 with a 2.92 ERA.
