According to Ken Rosenthal at foxsports.com , the Red Sox are "working hard to obtain Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez," although Rosenthal's sources indicated a deal is not close and may not happen because of the demands of new Padres general manager Jed Hoyer, the former Red Sox assistant GM. Speculation has centered on pitcher Clay Buchholz and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
ESPN's Jose Arangure Jr. tweeted Wednesday afternoon: "Source close to A Gonzalez believes he'll be traded to Red Sox within next 10 days. Does this mean deal will happen? No. But momentum is there."
