On a rehab assignment in Triple-A Pawtucket last night, shortstop Jed Lowrie felt discomfort in his left hand after a check swing. Lowrie went on the disabled list on Aug. 8 due to discomfort in left wrist, the same one that required surgery in April.
Lowrie said he felt discomfort in his left hand after a check swing on a strikeout, and his hand, down to his fingers, still didn't feel right today. Though admittedly frustrated, he says that he's not ready to give up on the season, particularly after hitting three homers in his first two rehab games.
"There's still something there," he said.
He's been told by others who have undergone wrist surgery that check swings are usually the final hurdle en route to normalcy, so he's hopeful this injury doesn't mean he's far off.
"I know there is light at the end of the tunnel," said Lowrie.
