BALTIMORE -- Newly acquired catcher/first baseman will make his first start behind the plate for the Red Sox on Sunday, catching Clay Buchholz as the Sox look to complete a series sweep against the Orioles. Martinez, in his Red Sox debut on Saturday, went 1-for-5 with a run-scoring single.
"At the beginning, it felt like I was making my major league debut. I was kind of nervous. But as the game went on, I was getting more and more comfortable,” said Martinez. "It felt great (to get the hit). You always look to get the first one out of the way early.”
Sox left fielder Jason Bay, meanwhile, was already likely to get a day off on Sunday. But after he left Saturday's game in the sixth inning due to cramping in his right hamstring, manager Terry Francona said that he would definitely be out of the series finale.
