The Red Sox, behind another dominating performance from starting pitcher Josh Beckett, beat the Braves in Atlanta, 4-1.
Beckett (9-3, 3.48), coming off a complete-game shutout against the Braves in his prior start last Saturday, tossed seven more innings against Atlanta on Friday. He became the first Sox starter to make consecutive starts of at least seven innings without allowing a run since Tim Wakefield in August 2007.
David Ortiz provided the Red Sox with all of the offense they needed when he launched a solo homer – his eighth of the season and seventh of June – in the fifth inning. The Sox later tacked on three runs against Braves starter Jair Jurrjens.
