The Celtics announced that they have waived forwards Kris Joseph and Jarvis Varnado, moves that trimmed their roster to 13 players.
Varnado, 24, was signed by the Celtics out of the NBA D-League at the end of December. He appeared in five games, playing a total of 18 minutes in which he scored six points and grabbed three rebounds. The decision to waive him was not unexpected, given that it came just before his contract went from non-guaranteed to guaranteed.
Joseph, 24, was the Celtics' second-round pick out of Syracuse this year. In 24 minutes over six games, he scored six points with five rebounds. In 10 games with the Celtics' D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, Joseph averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 boards and 1.7 assists per game.
