Boston College hockey coach Jerry York became the NCAA's career leader in wins when the top-ranked Eagles posted a 5-2 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday at the Mariucci Classic in Minneapolis. York is 925-558-41 in 41 seasons as a head coach, giving him one more win than former Michigan State coach Ron Mason.
York, who previously coached at Clarkson and Bowling Green, has led the Eagles to four national titles, including 2012.
"I've always been about the team," he said after the milestone win. "When I was a player, I was like that. Since I've been a coach, I've been like that. I've never really sought individual goals."
BC will celebrate York's accomplishment on Jan. 18 with Jerry York Night when the Eagles host UMass.
BC (12-2-1) next faces fourth-ranked Minnesota on Sunday night.
