The Celtics on Monday announced the signing of forward Jarvis Varnado, confirming a report from Sunday night. The 6-foot-9 Varnado played 10 games this season for the Sioux Falls SkyForce of the NBA Development League, averaging 14.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and a league-best 3.9 blocks in 30.5 minutes per game.
A 2010 second-round draft pick of the Heat, Varnado left Mississippi State as the NCAA's all-time leader in blocked shots. He played in Italy and Israel before returning to the States to play in the D-League.
Varnado will wear jersey No. 41.
