An angry Tom Brady blasted his own performance and that of his teammates in Sunday's sloppy 23-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brady was just 24-of-41 for 267 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Patriots quarterback was sacked three times and took nine hits as the Patriots offense had trouble all day finding rhythm.
"We played pretty terrible out there," Brady said. "It came down to the wire and our defense made some plays. That was a bad 60 minutes of football. We got out-competed out there, out-fought. We were lucky to win.
"We started slow, couldn't do anything offensively, couldn't make any plays. They made plenty of plays and we were lucky to be in it at halftime. [We] didn't really do anything in the second half, in the run game or pass game. So, just a poor effort overall."
The Patriots quarterback was intercepted twice in the first half, and was upset at an incompletion to Brandon Lloyd in the end zone as the two showed their frustration.
"We just didn't play well," Brady said. "We just didn't compete. You don't compete in the NFL, it's going to be close. It was both [execution and competitiveness]. Execution was terrible, that was easy to see. We didn't do anything."
Brady injured his right hand on hit by defensive end Jason Babin in the first half, and was was shaking it coming off the field. Brady didn't miss a snap but finished with a 73.9 rating.
"They played good," Brady said. "They didn't give us anything. We had to fight for it. They made plenty of plays on us. It just wasn't a very good performance."
It was the second straight week Brady was intercepted twice and he has four interceptions in his last two games after throwing just four in his first 13 games.
"Sure, it's very [concerning]," Brady said of the team's slow starts against San Francisco and Jacksonville. "You get very concerned when you don't play well. That's very evident by the way we performed. So, you have to have a good week of practice or else it's going to be just as tough against Miami.
