An industry source confirmed a report that Red Sox free agent outfielder Cody Ross met with the Rangers on Tuesday. Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal first reported the meeting between Ross and Texas management.
The Phillies and Mariners also are considered to be strong contenders for Ross' services. The Red Sox are said to be leaving the door open but limiting their offer to two years. Ross is said to be seeking a three-year deal worth about $25 million.
Ross, 31, hit .267/.326/.481 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs in 130 games with the Red Sox in 2012.
