Following the Celtics' 101-89 loss to the Rockets in Houston Friday night, C's forward Kevin Garnett and Rockets coach Kevin McHale shared a long embrace, with Garnett expressing his condolences for the recent death of McHale's daughter, Sasha. The interaction led to a tearful McHale, who could be seen wiping his eyes while leaving the court.
"I saw Kevin and had an emotional moment with him," said Garnett, who played with Minnesota while McHale was both a general manager and coach.
"KG and I, we go way back," McHale told reporters. "There will always be a special place in my heart for Kevin. We spent a ton of time together when he was a young guy. It was very nice."
Sasha McHale was just 23 years-old when she passed away due to complications from Lupus on Nov. 24.
"I got to go over and give him a hug and talk for a little bit," said Celtics guard Courtney Lee told reporters. Lee played for the Rockets last season. "I saw the tears rolling down his face and it was definitely an emotional time."
