WALTHAM -- In addition to a potential suspension of starting point guard Rajon Rondo, the Celtics could be without two pieces of their bench on Friday night when they take on the Trail Blazers Friday night at TD Garden.
Jeff Green injured his right knee in the third quarter Wednesday when Reggie Evans set a screen for Jerry Stackhouse. Green backed up into the screen awkwardly and sprained his knee. He received treatment and returned to the game in the fourth quarter.
Following practice Thursday, head coach Doc Rivers announced that Green had to sit out practice after his knee experienced more swelling overnight.
"He knee swelled. I think he's going to play but I'm not sure," Rivers said.
Rivers said that rookies Kris Joseph and Fab Melo - both currently with the D-League team in Maine - are options to replace either Green or Wilcox, but added that if Rondo is suspended, the team will have to play with one less player on the bench.
Chris Wilcox left in the first half with an illness and missed practice as well on Thursday. For more, visit the Celtics team page at weei.com/celtics [1].
