According to sources familiar with the situation, left-hander Felix Doubront is likely to make his major league debut on Friday, getting a start for the Red Sox in place of Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a forearm strain. While that decision is not final, all signs point to the 22-year-old getting the call-up from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Doubront is 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA in four starts in Triple-A following his promotion from Double-A Portland, where he was 4-0 with a 2.51 ERA. Between the two levels, he has punched out 54 and walked 22 in 59 2/3 innings. The PawSox activated him from the seven-day disabled list on Tuesday, after a stint on the sidelines due to what was described as a shin contusion.
