According to CBSSports.com [1], free agent Mike Napoli is scheduled to visit the Red Sox in Boston this weekend. Napoli has already met with Seattle, and is slated to get together with the Rangers in coming week.
The Red Sox have had continued interest in the 31-year-old, even after signing catcher David Ross, eyeing Napoli to play first base while also filling in at catcher and designated hitter. He is coming off a 2012 season in which he hit .227 with a .812 OPS in 108 games while battling leg injuries. Napoli did finish the '12 season strong, totaling a 1.051 OPS with seven home runs in September.
Napoli has an extraordinary amount of success at Fenway Park, where he has the highest OPS (1.256) since 2008 of any player with at least 58 plate appearances.
Reports stated earlier in the week that Napoli, who was not offered the one-year, $13.3 million qualifying offer by Texas, was seeking a four-year deal.
