Jets coach Rex Ryan, in a conference call with reporters on Friday morning -- the day after his team's 49-19 mauling at the hands of the Patriots -- credited New England as "an excellent football team" but insisted that he would not describe the gap between his team and his AFC East as insurmountable.
“No, please. I’d never say that. Ever. No way,” Ryan told reporters (as described by the New York Post [1]). “They’re an excellent football team. ... But to say they we’ll never catch them, that’s ridiculous. There is no chance, there is absolutely no percent of a chance that I believe that in my heart. And I’ll never concede that.”
Ryan described the game as a nightmare caused by five turnovers including a 52-second stretch that saw the Pats score three touchdowns on two Jets turnovers.
