Freshman forward T.J. Warren scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting as sixth-ranked NC State routed UMass, 94-76, in the semifinals of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Senior forward Richard Howell added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Wolfpack (3-0), who shot 56.5 percent from the field. Junior guard Lorenzo Brown had 11 points and 10 assists.
Junior guard Jesse Morgan led UMass (2-1) with 15 points. Senior forward Terrell Vinson had 13 points and seven rebounds, and junior point guard Chaz Williams recorded 13 points and five assists. The Minutemen shot 40.3 percent and turned over the ball 17 times.
NC State, which never trailed, jumped out to a 12-2 lead. The Wolfpack led by 16 at the half, 48-32, as Scott Wood (15 points on 5-of-9 treys) hit three 3-pointers in the final 3:22 of the period, including one at the buzzer. NC State never let UMass get back in the game in the second half, with the lead peaking at 27.
The Minutemen play Tennessee in the third-place game on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. NC State advances to meet Oklahoma State (led by former UMass coach Travis Ford) in Sunday's title game at 6:30 p.m.
