On the same day that the Celtics sent sent Fab Melo to the Maine Red Claws of the Development League along with Kris Joseph, C's coach Doc Rivers said he expects the 7-foot-0 Melo to do big things with his D-League reps.
"He hasn't played basketball for a long time, so it's just going to take him some time," Rivers said of Melo, who didn't start playing competitive basketball until he was in ninth grade. "I think he'll be really good in the D-League because there's not a lot of bigs, so I'm expecting him to almost be dominant. I don't think he'll see anybody his size, very few guys."
The C's chose Melo 22nd overall in the 2012 draft. Through five games this season, Melo has yet to play for the Celtics.
