FOXBORO -- Logan Mankins and Wes Welker were missing from the start of Patriots practice on Wednesday as they began on-field prep work for the Colts this Sunday at Gillette Stadium. The team practiced outdoors on the grass training fields outside Gillette in sweats and shells.
Mankins suffered a left ankle injury in the second half last Sunday and left Gillette after the game wearing a walking boot on his left foot. Welker has been nursing a sore knee for several weeks, as listed on the injury report.
Cornerback Aqib Talib attended his first Patriots practice since being acquired in a deadline-day trade with Tampa Bay two weeks ago. Talib had to sit out Sunday's win over the Bills, finishing a four-game suspension for unauthorized use of Adderall, a banned substance on the NFL performance-enhancing drug policy list.
Ryan Mallett, Derrick Martin, Shane Vereen and Brandon Deaderick were in black jerseys, signifying practice players of the week honors. Stevan Ridley was in a practice jersey with no number.
