A pair of Red Sox prospects were named to the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars, which will take place on Saturday. Outfielder Bryce Brentz and corner infielder Michael Almanzar, playing for the Surprise Saguaros, will both take part in the showcase as members of the West team.
Brentz, a 2010 supplemental first-round selection who spent most of 2012 in Double-A Portland before a late-season promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket, is hitting .286 with a .362 OBP, .429 slugging mark, .790 OPS and one homer in 11 games in the AFL. He's collected hits in 10 of 11 games thus far.
Almanzar, after enjoying something of a breakthrough season as a 21-year-old in High-A Salem this year, where he hit .300/.353/.458/.812 with 12 homers, is hitting just .234/.333/.277/.610 with two doubles in 13 games (eight at third base, five at first) in the AFL.
