Former Toronto Blue Jays third base coach Brian Butterfield has been hired by the Red Sox to serve in the same capacity.
The 54-year-old Maine native, who still resides in the state, had served on the Blue Jays staff since 2002, also was Toronto's bench coach from 2008-09. He has 34 years experience in professional baseball, 16 at the major league level. Prior to joining the Jays, he also managed in the Yankees farm system, while also holding the Arizona Diamondbacks' third base coach position from 1998-2000.
Butterfield, an avid New England Patriots fan, has made numerous appearances on WEEI. (Click here to listen to a 2009 appearance, talking about Marco Scutaro.) [1]
