FOXBORO -- After returing a kickoff 104 yards for a touchdown in Sunday's overtime win against the Jets, Devin McCourty was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Wednesday by the NFL.
The kick return quickly turned the momentum in the game after the Jets had taken an early 7-0 lead by scoring on their opening drive.
McCourty almost suffered the ultimate unfortunate turn of fate, fumbling a kickoff late in the fourth quarter that led to a Jets go-ahead field goal. McCourty said "my teammates saved my life" after the Patriots rallied for the game-tying field goal as time expired in regulation. The Patriots won it on a 48-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski in overtime and a strip-sack of Mark Sanchez by Rob Ninkovich.
