In a game that was notable for who didn't play, Jeff Green scored 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting to go with 7 rebounds and Jason Terry added 22 to lead the Celtics past the Knicks 109-98 in preseason action in Albany, New York.
Playing without Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass, the Celtics started Rajon Rondo, Courtney Lee, Green, Jared Sullinger and Jason Collins. Rondo had 13 points and 11 assists and Sullinger added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Rookie Kris Joseph also had a solid night with 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Chris Wilcox, Avery Bradley and Darko Milicic did not play because of injury, while new addition Leandro Barbosa was also not in the lineup.
The Knicks were also traveling light as they were without Carmelo Anthony, Amer'e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, JR Smith, Jason Kidd, Marcus Camby and Rasheed Wallace. Led by Chris Copeland, who scored 34 points, the Knicks built a 20-point lead before the C's rallied in the second half.
The Celtics will finish their preseason schedule on Sunday night at TD Garden when they play the 76ers. The season opener is Oct. 30 in Miami.
