According to a major league source, the Red Sox will interview Yankees bench coach Tony Pena on Monday for the team's vacant managerial post, with plans to interview Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale at some point this week.
Pena, 55, managed the Royals from 2002-05, winning the American League Manager of the Year in '03 after having led Kansas City to its first winning season in nine years. The 51-year-old Hale, a former Red Sox third base and bench coach, last interviewed for the Blue Jays manager's job prior to the '11 season. He has extensive managing experience in the minor leagues, winning Baseball America's Minor League Manager of the Year in '99 while leading the Red Sox' Double-A affiliate in Trenton.
The Red Sox interviewed Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach on Friday and have scheduled an interview with Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus in the coming days.
