According to a major league source, the Red Sox will interview Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach for their vacant managerial position. The Sox will begin the interview process Friday, with additional interviews taking place over the weekend and into early next week.
The Red Sox had interest in interviewing the 55-year-old Wallach during their managerial search last year, but were denied by the Dodgers after it was determined the request came in after a set deadline put in the former Triple-A manager's contract. The clause mandated teams had to request any interview by a certain date. Wallach's contract with the Dodgers is expiring this offseason.
Wallach played 17 years in the major leagues, while also serving as the Dodgers' hitting coach in 2004-05. He managed the Triple-A Albuquerque team during the 2009 and '10 seasons.
The interest in Wallach was first reported by the Boston Herald [1].
