Seahawks coach Pete Carroll joined Dennis & Callahan on Wednesday morning to preview Sunday's game against the Patriots in Seattle.
"We know that we're playing one of the great quarterbacks in the game, and he can do so many things," Carroll said of Tom Brady. "They're off to a torrid pace with what they're doing offensively. We're trying to figure it out. That's what we're in the midst of right now. We'll try to slow them down. We've got a good group on defense, they play hard and tough and all that. Each week is a new challenge."
Seattle's defense is the strength of its team. The Seahawks leads the league in fewest yards allowed per game (258.6) and fewest points per game (13.6).
"Basically it's a bunch of young guys, we're big and strong and we run real fast and they're playing together," Carroll said. "It's a pretty new group. We have one new starter from last year, but really in the last two years it's a brand new group. We're just learning and growing together. It's a really fun bunch of guys. We've got a chance to be pretty darn good. Obviously, we've got enough talent to be OK. We've got to see if we can be consistent and keep putting pressure on people and all."
Meanwhile, the Patriots offense heads into the game with league highs of 439.4 yards per game and 33.0 points per game.
"Josh [McDaniels] has done a really nice job with the offense," Carroll said. "They're transitioning a bit, with the running game. There's a tempo to it that I've seen before. They're going so fast, they're playing like the old Bills used to play. … They've really had it going on with Denver last week. But you know that they can throw it, and they've got all the weapons, too. So, this is a very difficult challenge. It's really exciting, though, for us to try to figure it out and see what we can do with it.
"It's going to be cool. Our place is a good place to play. … They'll be all cranked up for it. And we'll see if we can make a go of it. We're not doing a whole lot on offense these days, but we're working at it. We're trying to take care of the football and see if we can have a chance to win."
