With the Red Sox having fired Bobby Valentine on Thursday, one season into his two-year deal, team CEO/president Larry Lucchino suggested that there was no timetable for the Sox to identify his replacement. While he expressed hope that the team would conclude its search earlier than its previous two, he also cautioned that there was no certainty of such a timetable.
"The one thing we’ve learned is that the last two times we’ve done managerial searches, we’ve hired Terry Francona in the first week of December and hired Bobby Valentine in the first week of December," Lucchino said. "We’re not prepared to put any deadline or timetable to it. We certainly hope to get it done sooner than that."
