According to a report [1] from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Bobby Valentine will be fired as Red Sox manager at the end of the season.
A source told Heyman that the ouster will occur either Thursday or Friday. The belief from some is that Valentine will have a meeting with Sox front office before he is fired, but other sources told Heyman that there is no chance the manager could change his fate in a meeting.
Sox general manager Ben Cherington texted "no comment" to Heyman in response to the report.
Valentine, who has a 69-92 record with the Sox in his first season as manager, was asked on The Big Show Wednesday if he has heard from ownership regarding his future with the organization.
"I really don’t," Valentine said. "It all depends what they’re looking for. People have to make decisions, and God bless them. It’s not going to be an easy job no matter who’s at the helm.”
