NEW YORK -- Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is in the lineup Tuesday night despite having a broken left ring finger. Pedroia missed Monday's 10-2 loss to the Yankees but said Tuesday that he wants to finish the season.
"I like to compete," Pedroia said. "I get to play in two more games and then I have to sit around for four months."
Pedroia broke the finger on a slide while attempting to steal second base in the sixth inning of Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Orioles. He was thrown out on the play by Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters.
In 139 games this season, Pedroia is hitting .288/.344/.446 with 15 homers and 64 runs batted in.
