According to a Yahoo! Sports report, [1] former Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine is retiring and will participate in broadcasting games for Comcast Sports Net New England.
The report states that Scalabrine turned down an opportunity to join Tom Thibodeau's coaching staff with the Bulls, the team he played for the past two seasons. Prior to joining Chicago, Scalabrine played five seasons with the Celtics.
"Saying no to Thibs was the hardest decision I've ever had to make," Scalabrine said, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Scalabrine is scheduled to provide color commentary for three preseason and eight regular-season games, while also participating in studio work through January. He said what helped make his decision was the lack of interest from NBA teams in regard to continuing as a player.
"There was zero interest [in me]," said Scalabrine, who didn't rule out playing overseas at some point in 2013. "Not some, but zero."
