FOXBORO -- Contradicting a report on Wednesday, ESPN reported Thursday that tight end Kellen Winslow, Jr. did not fail his physical [1] with the Patriots this week.
Wednesday's report on CSNNE.com reported that sources said Winslow, 29, came to Foxboro for a physical but couldn't pass because of concerns over his chronically bad knees, including his right knee which has had several operations since a motorcycle accident in 2005.
ESPN reports Thursday that league sources indicate that Winslow - with 75 catches but only two touchdowns with the Buccaneers in 2011 - passed his physical but concerns remain over his knees.
With Visanthe Shiancoe placed on the injured reserve list on Wednesday, the team is looking to fortify depth behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The team signed Michael Hoomanawanui on Wednesday and added him to the active roster.
