Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine offered reporters in Oakland a puzzling explanation of a lineup on Saturday night in Oakland that featured outfielder Scott Podsednik in the third slot of the batting order for the first time in his career.
"Just a mistake," Valentine said in response to his deployment of Podsednik. "Is that what it says on the lineup? What the [expletive]? Switch it up. Who knows? Maybe it will look good. I haven’t seen it."
Valentine's Sox entered Saturday with a 62-71 record, good for a .466 winning percentage that is tied for the third worst of any team he's managed from the first day of spring training.
