Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Friday that “it doesn’t look very good” for linebacker Dane Fletcher in the wake of his knee injury in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Saints. Fletcher, who reportedly tore his ACL, was injured in the first quarter and was helped from the field.
“It’s unfortunate, because he’s worked hard. He had a really good offseason and training camp,” Belichick said on a conference call with reporters. “We have good competition at that position, and it will be an opportunity for somebody else to step in. But it’s unfortunate for Dane.”
Belichick would not comment on whether or not Fletcher would land on season-ending injured reserve because of what happened.
“I’m not trying to speculate on his injury,” Belichick said. “I think he’s going to be out for a while, and we’ll see exactly what that means. I don’t know.”
