According to a major league source, the Red Sox and Rangers "definitely" won't revisit the possibility of a deal that would send right-hander Josh Beckett to Texas prior to Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline for non-waiver trades. There is a possibility that the Rangers could re-engage the Red Sox next month, since Beckett's hefty contract (he is still owed approximately $37 million through the end of 2014) makes it extremely unlikely that a team would claim him off of waivers.
Beckett (5-9, 4.57 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Sox tonight against the Tigers. Major league sources characterize the possibility of a deal involving the right-hander as "unlikely."
