A two-out RBI single from Mike Aviles in the ninth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 2-1 win over the Rangers Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas. Clay Buchholz tossed seven innings of four-hit ball for the Red Sox, who snapped a four-game skid. Will Middlebrooks had a pair of hits, Vicente Padilla (4-0) got the win in relief, and Alfredo Aceves tossed a scoreless ninth for his 21st save of the season.
The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double from Kelly Shoppach, but the Rangers knotted the game at one in the last of the sixth when Elvis Andrus scored on a Josh Hamilton groundout. That set the stage for Aviles in the ninth. After Texas closer Joe Nathan recorded the first two outs, Daniel Nava and pinch-hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia worked him for walks before Aviles lined a 3-2 pitch into left-center to score Nava with the game-winner.
