Jimmer Fredette's 19 points led a balanced Kings attack in a 91-82 defeat of the Celtics in the Las Vegas summer league, and Fab Melo's bruised left hand added injury to insult.
Melo grabbed three rebounds in 13 scoreless minutes and will be re-examined by the C's training staff. He joins fellow Syracuse product and Celtics second-round selection Kris Joseph (hyperextended knee) on the injury list. The C's also played without JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore and Sean Williams, all of whom appear headed to the Rockets along with a second-round pick in a sign-and-trade deal for restricted free agent swingman Courtney Lee, according to multiple reports.
The Celtics fell to 2-1 in Las Vegas and 6-2 overall after finishing 4-1 in Orlando last week. Dionte Christmas led the C's with 19 points against Sacramento, while Jared Sullinger grabbed 10 rebounds but scored only six points. Fredette and Thomas Robinson (15 points, 16 rebounds) led five Kings in double figures.
