ORLANDO -- Glen Davis spent the first four seasons of his NBA career playing alongside the Big Three of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett and while he wasn't surprised by Allen's decision to sign with the Heat, he did say it was going to be, "Weird, weird, weird," not seeing the three of them together.
"Ray is at a part of his life where he feels like he wants to win and Miami right now is the best team," Davis said. "I don’t blame him for doing what he did. He paid his dues there with the Celtics and I think they’re going to love him regardless if he’s anywhere. He won a championship there. He gave his all there. He broke a lot of records there and you have to move on."
During a side session with Boston reporters in Miami, Allen said that he would always be a Celtic, and mentioned other players such as Eddie House, James Posey and Davis, who agreed with the sentiment.
"No matter what you say, you can go wherever you want to go, but being a part of that culture over there is always going to be a part of you," Davis said. "We had great experiences there. We built a lot of relationships there. We did a lot of great things in that city. You have that love and he’s always going to have that love. Kudos to Ray and hopefully everything works out for him."
Davis went to the Magic last season in a sign-and-trade deal that brought Brandon Bass to Boston. He averaged nine points and five rebounds with Orlando, but he figures to play a bigger role this year now that Ryan Anderson has been traded to the Hornets.
"I’m doing great. I’m just trying to become that player I know I always could be," Davis said. "That player that everybody’s seen from time to time and played at a high level. I’m just trying to keep that level of consistency because now is the time."
