As it turns out, Brandon Bass was the first of the Celtics' three remaining high-priority free agents to come to terms, signing a three-year deal, a league source confirmed. Ray Allen is visiting Miami with the Celtics still in the running, and the C's also are working on a new deal for Jeff Green. Contracts can't be officially signed until July 11. The Boston Herald reported news of the agreement first.
Bass opted out of the final year of his contract that was worth $4.25 million, but after the Celtics were eliminated in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against Miami, Bass noted how much he enjoyed playing in Boston and that he was hoping to stay. Bass averaged a career-high 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds last season with the Celtics and started 39 games during the regular season and all 20 playoff games.
