Outfielder Scott Podsednik, on the 15-day disabled list since June 19 (retroactive to June 18) with a left groin strain, said after Wednesday's game that he will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday. The injury was considered relatively minor at the time that Podsednik was placed on the DL, but given that the team needed to create a roster spot for Cody Ross and that Podsednik was expected to be out for at least a few days, the decision was made to place him on the disabled list. The 36-year-old said that he feels "great" and that he is ready to return to games.
Podsednik, acquired from the Phillies for cash considerations in May, is hitting .387 with a .409 OBP, .484 slugging mark and .893 OPS in 70 plate appearances for the Sox. He is eligible to come off the disabled list on July 3.
