Right-hander Clay Buchholz, the Red Sox' scheduled starter for the series finale against the Braves on Sunday, has been scratched due to illness. Valentine said that he expected Buchholz, who is 8-2 with a 5.53 ERA this year, to be skipped entirely in this turn ofthe rotation rather than having his start pushed back. Right-hander Aaron Cook will be activated from the disabled list in order to start in Buchholz's place.
Though Buchholz permitted five runs in six innings against the Marlins in his most recent start (on Tuesday), he has been dominant of late, going 4-0 with a 2.53 ERA, 31 strikeouts and seven walks in 37 innings over his last five starts.
Cook was scheduled to make his second rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday night, but he's been told that he will not be making the start tonight. Cook made his first rehab start on Monday, allowing three runs in four innings.
