According to a team source, Red Sox prospect Jose Iglesias is battling lower back stiffness, causing the shortstop to miss his fifth straight game for Triple-A Pawtucket, Tuesday night. It was thought that Iglesias might be a logical call-up for the Sox if Dustin Pedroia's thumb injury was to force the second baseman on the 15-day disabled list.
Iglesias, who is hitting .269 for the PawSox, had totaled four hits in his last 22 at-bats. He is, however, hitting .341 with a 790 OPS in May, after finishing April hitting just .200.
It is not expected that the ailment will keep Iglesias out an extended period of time.
