Coming out of a timeout, the Celtics trailed the 76ers by three in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals in Boston, and referee Micheal Smith whistled Kevin Garnett for an illegal screen [1] with 10 seconds remaining that effectively evened the series heading to Philadelphia.
"I was surprised he called it, to tell you the truth" said 76ers swingman Evan Turner, who scored four straight points to give the Sixers a 78-75 lead with 12 seconds left. "I was like, 'Yo, what happened? What's going on?' They called that foul, and I was like, 'Wow, somebody's going to be mad.'"
Garnett scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 12 rebounds, but the foul made his double-double an afterthought.
"I think that was a foul," said Sixers forward Elton Brand, who started the game defending Garnett. "It's been called late in the regular season, so to see it late in the playoffs, it was what it was."
