The Red Sox have moved Carl Crawford to the 60-day disabled list in order to free up room on the 40-man roster for the addition of pitcher Aaron Cook.
The Sox officially promoted Cook to the 25-man major league roster Thursday night, optioning shortstop Jose Iglesias to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Cook is scheduled to make his first start for the Red Sox Saturday, taking the place of Josh Beckett. Beckett is missing his start due to a sore right lat muscle.
Crawford had been on the 15-day disabled list since the start of the season due to the rehabilitation of a surgically repaired left wrist, and is currently dealing with a sprained ligament in his left elbow.
Iglesias went 2-for-3 with a run in Pawtucket's 6-4 loss to Buffalo Thursday night, raising his batting average to .216. He didn't appear in either of the two games he was active for during his latest stint with the Red Sox.
